Should One Discontinue Treatment?/End of Life Care
The presentation, "Discontinuing Treatment – End of Life," by Cathleen Colón Emeric, MD, MHS, addresses the complexities involved in managing osteoporosis treatment in individuals nearing the end of life. It covers the relationship between functional status and fracture risk, strategies for estimating life expectancy, and the risks and benefits of continuing osteoporosis medications. The session also emphasizes shared decision making and nonpharmacologic strategies to minimize fracture risk, prioritizing what matters most to patients and their families.
Target Audience
This continuing education activity is intended for use by health professionals who participate in the care of patients at risk for or suffering from osteoporosis, in the areas of primary care, endocrinology, geriatrics, gynecology, internal medicine, obstetrics, orthopedics, osteopathy, pediatrics, physiatry, radiology, rheumatology and physical therapy.
This includes physicians, nurse practitioners, registered nurses, pharmacists, physician assistants, technologists, researchers, public health professionals and health educators with an interest in osteoporosis and bone health.
